Despite the judge’s 10-year history with the rapper and several previous easy breaks, many believe the sentence was harsh and heavy-handed. In fact, the rapper’s legal team says the judge has a vendetta against him. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to TMZ, Meek’s attorney, Joe Tacopina, says the judge passed down the heavy sentence even after prosecutors recommended no jail time because of her own personal issues with the rapper. Tacopina says the two are from the same part of Philly and know some of the same people, the publication reports. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Tacopina cited an incident from last year, when the judge asked the rapper to do a remake of Boyz II Men’s, “On Bended Knee,” and give her a shout-out. According to the attorney, Meek thought the judge was joking, but she said “I’m not kidding,” and when he refused, she said, “Okay, suit yourself.” Since then, Tacopina believes she has had it out for him, which explains the heavy sentence. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As a result, Meek’s legal team says they plan to appeal the sentence.
