Luis attended LA Mission College and began his activism in the early 2000s. He played an important role in the early fight for the CA Dream Act, the Federal DreamAct, DACA, and other pro-immigration legislation. Luis did not qualify for DACA because he aged out but that didn't discouraged him from continuing to fight for the immigrant community. I remember the first time I heard the story of an undocumented student studying law at @UCLA and thinking to myself "if we can learn the law, then we can definitely change the law, represent our people in court, and bring about greater change". Luis was one of the reasons why I decided to transfer to UCLA - I knew that it was the breeding ground of undocumented student leaders and organizers. Luis is an inspiration to so many of us and it was an honor to attend his swearing in ceremony!
