Segunda um novo estudo publicado no periódico Journal of Consumer Psychology, consumir os mesmos alimentos faz com que as pessoas tenham mais chance de se aproximar e confiar uma na outra. Os pesquisadores da Universidade de Chicago, nos Estados Unidos, realizaram um experimento no qual os voluntários tinham que participar de um jogo de investimento desenvolvido para medir a confiança q um tinha no outro. Cada paricipante recebeu uma quantia de dinheiro que poderia dar para a pessoa com quem estava jogando e que, por sua vez, poderia investir o valor, de forma a receber duas vezes aquilo q tinha recebido. Quando isso acontecesse, o investidor poderia decidir o quanto — ou se — daria para o outro participante. O truque da pesquisa está no ritual pré-jogo: os pesquisadores deram doces para as duplas de jogadores. Algumas comeram o mesmo quitute, outras comeram diferentes. Os cientistas perceberam que aqueles participantes que comeram o mesmo doce antes do exercício deram mais dinheiro para a pessoa com quem estavam jogando. Em um segundo experimento, as duplas tinham que negociar um tópico fictício decidido pelos pesquisadores. Assim como no primeiro exercício, alguns pares comeram a mesma comida, outros não. Aqueles que se alimentaram da mesma coisa chegaram a um acordo duas vezes mais rápido do que aqueles que comeram petiscos diferentes. "As pessoas tendem a pensar q usam a lógica para tomar decisões, e elas no geral não têm ideia de que a preferência alimentar pode influenciar na forma como pensam', afirma Ayelet Fishbach, professor da Escola de Negócios da Universidade de Chicago.
