GREAT SEA STORY
The passenger steamer SS Warrimoo was quietly knifing its way through the waters of the mid-Pacific on its way from Vancouver to Australia. The navigator had just finished working out a star fix and brought Captain John DS. Phillips, the result. The Warrimoo’s position was LAT 0º 31’ N and LONG 179 30’ W. The date was 31 December 1899. “Know what this means?” First Mate Payton broke in, “We’re only a few miles from the intersection of the Equator and the International Date Line”. Captain Phillips was prankish enough to take full advantage of the opportunity for achieving the navigational freak of a lifetime.


He called his navigators to the bridge to check  double check the ship’s position. He changed course slightly so as to bear directly on his mark. Then he adjusted the engine speed.

The calm weather  clear night worked in his favor. At mid-night the SS Warrimoo lay on the Equator at exactly the point where it crossed the International Date Line! The consequences of this bizarre position were many:


The forward part (bow) of the ship was in the Southern Hemisphere  in the middle of summer. 

The rear (stern) was in the Northern Hemisphere  in the middle of winter. 

The date in the aft part of the ship was 31 December 1899.

In the bow (forward) part it was 1 January 1900.

 1980's, if l on a saturday night suddenly needed to find out whether birch trees
 and the Wendingo myth were native to the same areas, Iwould have to wait
 until the library opens on monday, go in hoping they have books on trees that
 happen to mention where birches have spread globally, and then ask if they
 have any books on the myths and folklore of native americans, receive a weird
 look from the librarian, find our that there's one book in another library next
 town over, but it's being borrowed by someone else, wait two weeks to get it,
 and then read the entire damn thing only to discover that this one doesnt
 mention wendingos at all
 And I just got my answer with two google searches, in less than two minutes
 The answer is yes

 Well, I'm from Finland, and as a first thing, if there's one thing to know about
 Finland, it's full of birch trees. Also, at this time of the year, the sun sets early
 so it's completely black out there at 4 pm. These things do happen in the
 northern hemisphere. I couldn't get a proper picture, but this is roughly what a
 birchwood looks at night
 It's actually way, way creepier when the sky is black and everything is dark, and
 it's freezing cold because Mother Nature does not love us. Also, humans are
 good at pattern recognition and creeping the shit out of themselves. Now
 consider

While vegetarianism and veganism are on the rise in the African-American-Black community; it’s still a relatively new frontier for our people, especially African-Americans. Vegetarianism was relatively low in West Africa, home to our ancestors, so changing your entire diet to a plant based one can be challenging. Following the coronation of Haile Selassie I as Emperor of Ethiopia in 1930, Black vegetarians in the western hemisphere began to rise in large part due to Rastafarianism—a religion developed in Jamaica in the 1930s and rawfoodist such as famous African-American comedian Dick Gregory. Both these factors were contributing forces to the early stages of Black dietary shifts in the U.S, in addition to the phenomenal soulful flavors used in creating African and Caribbean inspired vegan and vegetarian dishes. Vegetarian Restaurant by Hakin, located at 73 NE 167th Street in North Miami Beach, FL 33162 is continuing the delicious tradition of vegan and vegetarian soulful innovation. Just steps away from all three major highways and Jackson Hospital North, the restaurant sits right off 163rd street in an unassuming strip mall with a gigantic sign outside that reads VEGETARIAN RESTAURANT. To be honest, I have driven by this place a trillion times and never stopped. I just wasn’t interested in Vegetarian food in my 20’s, but now, I want to live so I made that stop out of curiosity and have been a customer since! Various organic and natural products are on display near the entrance and to the right, there is a full fledged mini health food store. I was even able to pick up some shea butter and organic oils for my dreads! The restaurant has been in continuous operation for over seven years in the same location. A recent expansion will allow for larger dine in parties in a semi private dining space. <p>Not really. Apparently Congress doesn’t actually affirm the results until January 6, which means there will be at least a few people petitioning Congress to change their minds.</p>

<p>Holy shit it’s almost like millions of people are unhappy that trump was elected for a myriad of legitimate reasons and are holding out hope that the failsafes built into our electoral processes might be used to keep an unqualified twitter addict out of the most powerful political office in the Western Hemisphere.

<p>Exactly, these things are failsafes. Changing a fucked up result are their purpose. If their whole purpose was just to automatically affirm then they would not exist.</p>
<p>It isn’t dumb to have hope.</p>

<p>It literally unprecedented. Sure lots of things are “possible” and you can hope all you want, all I’m saying is it’s wildly unrealistic. I’m not even sort of a Trump fan and I completely agree that there’s a myriad of reasons not to want him as president, but that doesn’t mean I’m wasting my time and energy waiting for a miracle. The idea that a Republican majority house will stage a mass insurrection and go against their party&rsquo;s nominee is little short of a fantasy. </p>
