The only time you ever hear that kind of accusation is from girls who鈥檝e decided in their women鈥檚 studies classes that this is what it would be like in their view of the world, and who鈥檇 know better if they ever set foot in a math classroom. In fact, my university goes out of its way to promote programs and scholarships for girls in STEM, without any equivalent for the guys, so if there <i>is</i>聽any sexism it鈥檚 there.</p><p>If you鈥檙e intimidated by STEM subjects, or you can鈥檛 do it, just own up to it. I honestly don鈥檛 know what you mean by聽鈥渨ouldn鈥檛 have had a chance against those straight white males鈥 - it sounds like you鈥檙e saying no girl could ever compare to a straight white male in ability to learn a STEM subject, which I鈥檓 sure wasn鈥檛 the intention but I can鈥檛 figure out what else you might be trying to say. Regardless, in my experience it鈥檚 the guys who are at a disadvantage there, . If the girls can鈥檛 keep up, if anyone can鈥檛 keep up, then that鈥檚 their own problem and certainly not the聽鈥減atriarchy鈥檚鈥 fault.</p><p>Don鈥檛 make baseless accusations coming from a position of ignorance (and I <i>guarantee</i>聽it鈥檚 coming from a position of ignorance because if you had any actual experience with this kind of thing, you鈥檇 know better). Guys enter STEM fields at slightly higher rates because that鈥檚 what they want to study.
