Organizing: PE.RI U.S. NEWS FYRE FESTIVAL FRAUD Mar 07 | Fyre Festival founder and CEO Billy McFarland pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud, facing up to ten years in prison. Fyre Festival founder and CEO, Billy McFarland, pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud yesterday, and will face up to a decade in prison. McFarland admitted in a Manhattan federal court that he had defrauded investors and falsified documents as a way to provide funding for his promised luxury Fyre Festival experience. The two wire fraud charges each carry a maximum of 20 years in prison, but McFarland made a plea agreement which may allow him to face only eight to ten years, with a fine of up to $300,000. McFarland’s sentence is scheduled for June 21st. ___ McFarland and fellow festival-promoter rapper Ja Rule made Fyre Festival out to be a “luxury concert” to take place on a small island in the Bahamas. The festival was to include performances from Blink-182, Migos, and Disclosure with extravagant housing accommodations and celebrity-chef-cooked meals. However, when concertgoers started to arrive to the festival, they were met with flimsy tents and boxed lunches and told that the musical acts had been canceled. Mcfarland told the judge, Naomi Reice Buchwald, of Federal District Court in Manhattan, that he had begun organizing the festival with good intentions but had “greatly underestimated the resources” it would take to deliver the experience that was advertised. ___ Photo: Mark Lennihan | AP

Daryl Davis has been traveling across the US since the 1980s meeting members

He said he had to beat up two KKK followers AFTER they physically attacked him

This black man has single-handedly caused more than 200 white racists to leave the Ku Klux Klan simply by confronting their prejudice with friendship.

Inspirational Daryl Davis, 58, a blues musician and author, has travelled all over the US since the early 1980s actively seeking out and befriending members of the openly racist organisation.

The KKK is a white supremacy cult founded in 1865 organizing members to persecute people for the color of their skin or their religious beliefs.

But Daryl Davis has been battling the hatred and answering a call he has felt since he was a young man when he decided to confront the ideology of the KKK head-on one member at a time.

San Basilio de Palenque is a village in Northern Colombia about 50 miles East of Cartagena with a population of around 3,500 people. San Basilio de Palenque is one of several walled cities that were started by escaped slaves in the 17th century. The city was set up as a refuge for escaped slaves by escaped slave Benkos Bioho, it is also the only city that has survived and is still inhabited today. The people who live here now are mainly Afro-Colombians which are direct descendants of African slaves brought by the Spanish during the Colonization of the Americas. Benkos Bioho was born in Africa and claimed to have been a king there. Captured in Africa by the Portuguese and sold several times until being sold to a Spaniard in Cartagena. Benkos Bioho tried to escape several times before he finally succeeded. After his escape he formed a town with others that freed themselves. There they developed their own language called Palenquero. The language is influenced by the Kikongo language of Congo and Angola and also by Portuguese. One of the things he did was have the women shape maps in their cornrows. They were also used as symbols to deliver messages. Bioho also had the women collect seeds and put them in their hair as decoration. Later the seeds would be passed on to the village so they could start to grow their own crops. He was later called King Benkos grew his army of Maroons (African refugees who escaped slavery in the Americas and formed independent settlements). His army of Maroons started raiding Spanish plantations, farms, and ranches. King Benkos also had spies that alerted him to the movements of his enemies and because of this he was never defeated. Unable to defeat King Benkos and the Maroons the Spanish Governor of Cartengena offered a peace treaty. The peace deal was finalized but a few years later was called off after the Spanish discovered a plot King Benkos was organizing against them. The Spaniards captured Benkos & 👇🏾

DID YOU KNOW CORNROWS WERE USED AS MAPS FOR ESCAPED FORMERLY ENSLAVED AFRICANS. San Basilio de Palenque is a village in Northern Colombia...

Organizing: Protesters don't block traffic to gain your support. They do it so you can see what if feels like to be stuck in a powerless situation How do you respond to this situation? Are you calm and peaceful? Do you want to spend years organizing political talks about it? Nope, you want to run those protesters over, kill them, kill them all. If you want to kill protesters who have you stuck in traffic, imagine what you would want to do to a system that patrols, harasses and kills you. The sooner you learn perspective the sooner you won't have to be stuck in traffic. Posted this earlier and was bombarded with "what about emergency vehicles what if I'm going to the hospital" etc etc. First of all, understand that these protestors are human, they are not trying to kill anyone, and they will let emergency vehicles pass by. You're not going to protest against an injust system and then choose not to let an ambulance through. There is only ONE instance of this happening after countless protests across the US. Next rebuttal "these people should get jobs; not everyone can just protest all day" these people do have jobs (thanks to our capitalist system you must have a job-jobs to survive bc things like healthcare aren't provided universally 🙃🙃) but are using their little free time to fight for equality and fight against a system that actively oppresses them. If you can spend your free time doing activities like watching TV, shopping, cooking, etc then congratulations but some people are tired of being victims of an oppressive system and want to fight back. "You're keeping people from getting to their jobs" if this is your response please reread the post because clearly you missed the point. TLDR: If you see a group of oppressed people protesting and your first thought is that they're wrong, maybe stop and consider that that have a reason to protest! Think about other people and imagine being ignored and silenced your entire life to the point where the ONLY way you can be heard is by shutting a highway down. 😞 Y'all if you follow me then I know you understand sexism so please apply these same concepts to racism and classism. It's super disappointing to see a bunch of privileged-ignorant-selfish responses when I post about things deeper than "puppies not patriarchy." stop! Think! Try to understand and empathize! Don't automatically get defensive!!!!
