Memes, Native American, and Soldiers: MANUEL QUINTIN LAME CA INDIGENOUS PRIDE Manuel Quintin Lamé, is a Native American rebel from Colombia, who comes from the Paéz people. Manuel formed the Quintin Lamé Armed Movement, in response to landowners and the Colombian government's unlawful seizures of indigenous land. The movement did not just fight to stop whites and the criollo government from appropriating indigenous land, but also fought through invasion to regain and expand indigenous land to the original inhabitants. The group received its advanced training from Marxist groups, and was was birthed in response to the killing of indigenous leaders by the Colombian government in order to intimidate indigenous populations into cooperating with land grabs. The group proved to be so formidable that the Colombian government agreed to negotiations and allowed Manuel's group to be represented in their Assembly, and to pay his soldiers $128 dollars a month while they adjusted to unarmed civilian life. The Movement demobilized and gave up their arms willingly after having successfully stood up to the Colonial Goverment, and Manuel remains a hero to all South American Indigenous people. Indigenous heroes like Manuel are often downplayed or under represented in favor of white Revolutionaries like Che Guevara (whom I still greatly respect) and so I hope this post helps educate others of this great indigenous leader and South American Indigenous Rebel!
