Anaconda, Black Lives Matter, and Church: 54 years ago today, 4 little black girls in Birmingham, Alabama were killed whern the KKK bombed their church IN MEMORY OF ADBS MKS COLLINS CAROL ROBERTSON Instead of cracking down on the white terrorist cells, the FBI and CIA worked for decades to harass, prosecute, and murder civil rights leaders. Instead of police infiltrating and disrupting the white terrorist cells, the KKK infiltrated law enforcement THIS DAY IN HISTORY . Four black schoolgirls killed in Birmingham 💔 . On this day in 1963, a bomb explodes during Sunday morning services in the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, killing four young girls. . With its large African-American congregation, the 16th Street Baptist Church served as a meeting place for civil rights leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr., who once called Birmingham a “symbol of hardcore resistance to integration.” Alabama’s governor, George Wallace, made preserving racial segregation one of the central goals of his administration, and Birmingham had one of the most violent and lawless chapters of the Ku Klux Klan. . The church bombing was the third in Birmingham in 11 days after a federal order came down to integrate Alabama’s school system. Fifteen sticks of dynamite were planted in the church basement, underneath what turned out to be the girls’ restroom. The bomb detonated at 10:19 a.m., killing Cynthia Wesley, Carole Robertson & Addie Mae Collins–all 14 years old–and 11-year-old Denise McNair. Immediately after the blast, church members wandered dazed & bloodied, covered with white powder and broken stained glass, before starting to dig in the rubble to search for survivors. More than 20 other members of the congregation were injured in the blast. . When thousands of angry black protesters assembled at the crime scene, Wallace sent hundreds of police and state troopers to the area to break up the crowd. Two young black men were killed that night, one by police and another by racist thugs. Meanwhile, public outrage over the bombing continued to grow, drawing international attention to Birmingham. At a funeral for three of the girls (one’s family preferred a separate, private service), King addressed more than 8,000 mourners. . A well-known Klan member, Robert Chambliss, was charged with murder : with buying 122 sticks of dynamite. In October 1963, Chambliss was cleared of the murder charge & received a six-month jail sentence & a $100 fine for the dynamite. Although a subsequent FBI investigation identified three other men. . Bad, Feminism, and Memes: ls it Racist? Racism is... Systemic oppression Reinforced by society Harmful to a group of people Based on history of power, oppression, and inequality Racism is not... Simply about hurt feelings x Only an issue of being offended Just a rude statement based on racial bias Reverse racism is not real. The sociological definition of racism is power+prejudice; thus you can be prejudiced against someone, but without systemic power, it's not "racism" (it is still bad and wrong obviously). We use the sociological definition of racism, since sociologists study society and things like racism and discrimination 🙂 same reason we use scientific definitions for scientific phenomena and not just default to a basic general dictionary definition. If you are white and this upsets you, please think about history and the evolution of society. No one is saying white people have easy lives with no problems or that things are handed to you...just that racism is a SYSTEMIC issue that has to do with who has and has previously had power. And that ending slavery doesn't automatically make everyone equal. It's pretty easy to see that racism is still hugely prevalent today (look at the recent events in Charlottesville, the way people talk about people who are Muslim, the rhetoric around immigration, or anything Trump has ever said about any minority), so instead of debating about whether or not it was racist when a person of color was mean to you, why not focus on fixing these systemic issues and making the world a more equitable place for ALL people 🙃🙃🙃🙃. (Also I generally don't like turning off comments but things get hella messy whenever I post about racism, particularly reverse racism - I am assuming this is from people who follow me and are younger, maybe that live in mostly white areas and don't interact with POC and have never thought about racism??? - or y'all are just racist in which cause pls unfollow because feminism is not only about white women 🙄)

Africa, Ali, and America: u/ZeroTenenbaum 2d i.redd.it happiest camper Our parents and grand parents had Muhammad Ali. I don't care if they lived in America or Africa or China or India - they knew about Muhammad Ali and they saw him take his stances against injustice and whether they liked him or hated him, he started a conversation. When Colin Kaepernick took a stand, he was sidelined. Maligned. The overlords tried to end his career and shut him the fuck up. In March, Donald Trump - the most powerful man in the world by a wide margin - said that no team will sign him because they don't want to get a nasty tweet from him if they do. But then the unthinkable happened. Other NFL players started saying "enough is enough - there is injustice in our society and we need to address it". He started a movement. Dozens of players are now taking a stand. Michael Bennett is drawing attention to profiling. These are players who were told explicitly not to ever take a stand, and now they're participating in a debate. It's just talking! The best ideas will win! But before Kaep, you couldn't chime in without being penalized - badly - professionally - that's over. Kaep took a risk and sacrificed everything and, in doing so, changed everything. And for all of u who are gonna pop off saying Kaep is racist...bear in mind that his adoptive parents Rick and Teresa are a rural white couple from Wisconsin and cheer him on at all his games and love him and support him in his mission so good luck with that! Everybody needs heroes and he's one of mine. Bless up 🇺🇸
