That same day, Selena will also receive another exciting honor. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ "Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, actress, producer and Texas native EvaLongoria will be there to proclaim November 3rd as the official 'Selena Day' in the city of Los Angeles," wrote Suzette. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Suzette and the rest of the Quintanilla family will be present for the 6:30 PM ceremony. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Last year, Longoria took to Instagram to announce that she too would be receiving a star the same year as her idol. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ In a heartfelt post Longoria wrote, "I could never have dreamed that one day I would receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But even more ironic is that the same year I receive my star, so does my idol, my inspiration, my fellow Tejana, my fellow Corpus Christi native, Selena Quintanilla. She was the reason I even dared to dream that a better life was possible. And that that life didn't have to distance you from where you came from," she said. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ "So many people become famous and leave a place without ever crediting it with the role it played in shaping their lives. Selena was proud of being from Corpus Christi, Texas. And that made me proud to be from Corpus." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ She continued, "She blazed the way for all of us and I will be forever grateful to her for not only that but for the pure joy I felt when I got to see her perform. Her smile, her charisma, her beauty put every single person who watched her under a spell. Thank you, Selena. I know I will receive my star on the Walk of Fame because you dared to dream it first."

Selena Quintanilla:
truecrimedaily:

On March 31, 1995, the successful tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, was murdered by the president of her fan club and employee, Yolanda Saldívar, in a motel room in Corpus Christi. Selena had been attracted to the motel by Saldívar, who had bought a gun after being accused by the Quintanilla family of having embezzled more than $60,000 that she stole from Selena’s fan club and boutiques. After being shot on the right shoulder, Selena still managed to escape to the motel lobby, leaving a trail of blood behind. There the singer named Saldívar as her assailant and confirmed the number of the room where she was staying at. After 50 minutes of surgery at the Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital, Selena was pronounced dead, her cause of death being blood loss and cardiac arrest. Meanwhile Saldívar had tried to escape the motel but a police officer noticed her and ordered Saldívar to get out of the truck she was driving. She parked and pointed the gun she had earlier used to shoot the singer at her temple, threatening to commit suicide. After more than nine hours of negotiations Saldívar finally surrendered. On October 23, 1995, Yolanda Saldívar was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years. Saldívar is currently serving her sentence at the Mountain View Unit in Gatesville, Texas, where she is in complete isolation due to the multiple death threats she has received from Selena fans who are in the same prison. Selena’s murder caused a wave of shock in the Hispanic community, the singer who was adored by millions became a pop culture icon after her death.

( Pictured: The singer, Selena, during a concert and her murderer, Yolanda Saldívar. )

Fun fact: Selena Gomez is named after her.
