This is why I have this. Even if they can get the lock opened they canā€™t push the door open. Got it at Lowes for $20.

If youā€™re like me and have a large gap under your front door (someone could take a stick and just poke the leaning stick style door jam out), I recommend the Addalock. Itā€™s small, perfect for traveling, and this lock is CRAZY. Itā€™s so simple but the door does not move. 
You canā€™t see it from the other side, either. It also cost about $20, and I canā€™t recommend it enough. Easy to travel with, too! Great for Air BnBs!




Thatā€™s why I have these on my doors. They get drilled into the side and once its flipped over the door nothing is getting it open. Not the door being unlocked nothing, Iā€™ve unlocked the door and pulled and pushed as hard as I could and it didnā€™t budge. When I go on a trip this is what I use and when Iā€™m home I leave it on too. No one is getting in here.

Okay I know that it is necessary for many but what do you do if you need medical attention and youā€™re not able to open the door from the inside? Can the fire department get through these at least?Ā Ā 

Yes. The fire department can and will break down your door if necessary, itā€™s one of the reasons they have axes; itā€™s entirely possible for door frames to melt/expand/seize or otherwise become unopenable during a house fire but the door itself can be hacked down. Or the window. In rare cases, the wall. Firefighters donā€™t fuck around with collateral damage when lives are at stake.

Some parents really donā€™t understand the difference between actual discipline and hurting your kids.

This teaches a kid nothing except needing to hide what makes them happy because theyā€™re scared their parents will destroy it.




Wowā€¦what a terrible parent. Minecraft is A LOT of work, diligence, and creativity. The parent should have been encouraging that. And why does a 9 year old need to wake up every day at 7 am during a pandemic? Whatā€™s wrong with this person? 
I can foresee an estranged relationship in the future. Because this parent is out of their minds and more interested in exacting punitive control than being a loving caregiver. 



Y'all wonder why some kids are the way they are? This is it. 

why on earth does a NINE YEAR OLD CHILD has to wake up at fucking 7 am during a pandemic? 

also children may require up to TWELVE HOURS of sleep
heā€™s not being defiantā€”without the threat of a ridiculous and unnatural hour he MUST be awake at heā€™s actually following his natural circadian rhythm which is actually HEALTHIER for him
what theyā€™ve done is broken his trust in a MAJOR way. he does not feel safe or in control. which is why he is refusing meals. 
honestly? if they keep this behavior upā€”let alone just not apologizing and finding the save file for his gameā€”heā€™s gonna develop some dangerous coping skills like yknow. An eating disorder. Dissociation. Self harm.
Iā€™m not being hyperbolic. this is literally how it starts.

This is the second time this week Iā€™ve seen a story like this (the first being the boyfriend destroying his girlfriendā€™s AC island over an argument) and it makes me think ā€“ how is this ANY different to someone destroying a physical piece of art someoneā€™s made: ripping up their sketchbook, breaking ceramics, cutting up cosplays? If this person had come forward with a question likeĀ ā€œmy son wouldnā€™t get out of bed so I broke the birdbox he madeā€ there wouldnā€™t be ANY question whether this was abusive behaviour.
Thereā€™s an inherent disconnect with how we talk about theĀ ā€œvalueā€ of virtual items/creations in video games: something about the way that these things arenā€™t tangible in the conventional sense makes them somehow less valuable than something everyone can hold and observe and appreciate. Think about the amount of ā€œfunny gamer rageā€ videos out there that are people upset over losing WoW saves and the likes: game saves are often things people have put hundreds of hours into, they have value to that person and are representative of their own dedication. Hell, Iā€™m really bummed at the moment over not having access to some of my BL2 saves (I canā€™t travel to get my PS4 from uni), and I know Iā€™d be upset if I lost them forever.Ā 
Video games are a massive escape mechanism for a lot of people especially right now, and putting time and effort into particularly building games is a constructive and creative outlet that gives people a feeling of accomplishment (and letā€™s be real itā€™s a lot more practical than having a house full of lego). Yet thereā€™s still this weird stigma attached to them, thisĀ ā€œitā€™s just a gameā€ mentality that leads people to be easily dismissive of othersā€™ feelings over losing progress. Destroyed your girlfriendā€™s AC island, which she put hundreds of hours into building? Whatever, itā€™s just a game. Deleted your kidā€™s minecraft file, which he spent an entire year working on? Whatever, itā€™s just a game, why are you so mad? Itā€™s not a real thing, itā€™s just some numbers hiding behind fancy computer graphics!

If youā€™re like me and have a large gap under your front door (someone could take a stick and just poke the leaning stick style door jam out), I recommend the Addalock. Itā€™s small, perfect for traveling, and this lock is CRAZY. Itā€™s so simple but the door does not move. 
You canā€™t see it from the other side, either. It also cost about $20, and I canā€™t recommend it enough. Easy to travel with, too! Great for Air BnBs!

Yes. The fire department can and will break down your door if necessary, itā€™s one of the reasons they have axes; itā€™s entirely possible for door frames to melt/expand/seize or otherwise become unopenable during a house fire but the door itself can be hacked down. Or the window. In rare cases, the wall. How about the time the Dalai Lama got wasted and spray-painted ā€œKarma Is a Beachā€ on the Tibetan ambassadorā€™s limo? Probably not, since they never happened. But they could happen if a filmmaker decides to write those scenes into his or her movie. And, even though we know the movie is fiction, those scenes will live on in our shared cultural conscience as impressions of those real people, thereby corrupting our memory of them built on their real-life actions.Thatā€™s why filmmakers have a responsibility when playing with peopleā€™s perceptions of admired historic people to maintain a basic truth about the content of their character. Quentin Tarantinoā€™s portrayal of Bruce Lee in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood does not live up to this standard. Of course, Tarantino has the artistic right to portray Bruce any way he wants. But to do so in such a sloppy and somewhat racist way is a failure both as an artist and as a human being.This controversy has left me torn. Tarantino is one of my favorite filmmakers because he is so bold, uncompromising and unpredictable. Thereā€™s a giddy energy in his movies of someone who loves movies and wants you to love them, too. I attend each Tarantino film as if it were an event, knowing that his distillation of the ā€™60s and ā€™70s action movies will be much more entertaining than a simple homage. Thatā€™s what makes the Bruce Lee scenes so disappointing, not so much on a factual basis, but as a lapse of cultural awareness.Bruce Lee was my friend and teacher. That doesnā€™t give him a free pass for how heā€™s portrayed in movies. But it does give me some insight into the man. I first met Bruce when I was a student at UCLA looking to continue my martial arts studies, which I started in New York City. We quickly developed a friendship as well as a student-teacher relationship. He taught me the discipline and spirituality of martial arts, which was greatly responsible for me being able to play competitively in the NBA for 20 years with very few injuries.During our years of friendship, he spoke passionately about how frustrated he was with the stereotypical representation of Asians in film and TV. The only roles were for inscrutable villains or bowing servants. In Have Gun - Will Travel, Paladinā€™s faithful Chinese servant goes by the insulting name of ā€œHey Boyā€ (Kam Tong). He was replaced in season four by a female character referred to as ā€œHey Girlā€ (Lisa Lu). Asian men were portrayed as sexless accessories to a scene, while the women were subservient. This was how African-American men and women were generally portrayed until the advent of Sidney Poitier and blaxploitation films. Bruce was dedicated to changing the dismissive image of Asians through his acting, writing and promotion of Jeet Kune Do, his interpretation of martial arts.Thatā€™s why it disturbs me that Tarantino chose to portray Bruce in such a one-dimensional way. The John Wayne machismo attitude of Cliff (Brad Pitt), an aging stuntman who defeats the arrogant, uppity Chinese guy harks back to the very stereotypes Bruce was trying to dismantle. Of course the blond, white beefcake American can beat your fancy Asian chopsocky dude because that foreign crap doesnā€™t fly here.I might even go along with the skewered version of Bruce if that wasnā€™t the only significant scene with him, if weā€™d also seen a glimpse of his other traits, of his struggle to be taken seriously in Hollywood. Alas, he was just another Hey Boy prop to the scene. The scene is complicated by being presented as a flashback, but in a way that could suggest the stuntmanā€™s memory is cartoonishly biased in his favor. Equally disturbing is the unresolved shadow that Cliff may have killed his wife with a spear gun because she nagged him. Classic Cliff. Is Cliff more heroic because he also doesnā€™t put up with outspoken women?I was in public with Bruce several times when some random jerk would loudly challenge Bruce to a fight. He always politely declined and moved on. First rule of Bruceā€™s fight club was donā€™t fight ā€” unless there is no other option. He felt no need to prove himself. He knew who he was and that the real fight wasnā€™t on the mat, it was on the screen in creating opportunities for Asians to be seen as more than grinning stereotypes.
