That’s been the thing for years. The HIV scare of the ‘80s prohibited us from donating blood. And they still hold that against us despite the fact that that claim has been debunked over and over again.

the wording on the paperwork is “Are you a man who has had sexual intercourse with a man after 1980” or “Are you a woman who has had sexual intercourse with a man who has had sexual intercourse with another man since 1980” (this was a blood drive at my college  where majority of the students werent Alive in 1980.) I donated all the time back when I was a virgin, because o- , but now I’m not allowed to. So a better question for this article is “Why won’t baby boomers let queer people donate blood, even though all the blood gets screened for HIV and aids anyway?” though, theres a lot of room for loopholes in the wording of it   


This fucking matters. Bias in medicine is bias that should not exist. Fucking fix it.

as someone who has received money and/or drugs in exchange for sex, i have a lifetime ban on giving blood. FURTHERMORE, my whore blood is so filthy that if you’ve had sex with me in the past year, YOU can’t give blood!
and that’s a federal goddamn guideline, folks! 

If you lived in Europe for 3 months between 1980 and 1996 you can’t donate blood which basically takes out everyone who ever served in the military and was stationed overseas, anyone who studied abroad or anyone who had a job overseas during that period. The Red Cross is always announcing they have a shortage of blood donors but they create the shortage with the byzantine array of restrictions that they refuse to revisit. 

Okay, the above stuff is stigma and total crap, we have efficient screens for HIV and things now, the blood will be screened anyway, banning people for their sexual history is completely prejudice and its wasteful, and those rules really need to go.
But the last one, the ban on donation for people living in Europe, is actually done for a reason. Its an attempt to limit the spread of vCJD, which we don’t have a way of screening for right now.


Last i went you could donate blood if trans, I was openly trans at my blood clinic and they took me. So its probably just that particular clinic, which I say so that other trans people arent discouraged from trying to donate.
Also… as long as its the only question you lie on… if theres a blood shortage emergency I really dont see why not lie on that one question. Like its terrible to have to do that and im not trying to make you feel bad if you avoiding donating because of it, but since we know its not scientifically founded it seems perfectly moral to me to lie on that one question if you want to donate. There’s not really a way for them to fact check that.

That’s it.If the forms are like those provided in Italy, you won’t have even have to lie. If you live in some dumbass country that thinks you cannot donate if you’re queer, though, yeah, just fucking lie about it because there is no valid reason that says you cannot give blood.It’s an whole different matter if we’re talking about restrictions based on where you were at X date.These questions are common worldwide because they refer to viruses and infections that cannot be screened. This is not made because the Red Cross is mean and cruel and whatever the fuck; it’s because they cannot be sure your blood is not contaminated and since the blood is going to someone who, it stands to reason, is already compromised on their own, they cannot fight their own battle and add more. That’s why you cannot donate. My uncle died because he was fighting leukemia and was injected a transfusion of infected blood. DO NOT LIE ON THE FORM ABOUT ILLNESSES YOU HAD OR PLACES YOU’VE BEEN TO.  how I got Joe. Joe was the angel of my life. We understood each other.
 There was no need for words. He followed me around all the time. He slept
 next to me on the street. The moment I opened my eyes in the morning he
 would lick my face. He gave me self-esteem. I was a complete loser but at
 least I could take care of Joe. I could bring him to the park. I could bring him
 to the vet. I could raise enough money to get his medication. He's the reason
 I was finally able to quit heroin. Because if something happened to me, what
 would happen to him? So I got clean. It was hard but I got clean. Joe lived
 for another thirteen years. He got a tumor in 2012 and held on a few more
 months. I barely survived it. I was able to stay off drugs, but I promised
 myself that I'd never get another dog. It's just too painful. But two years ago I
 found Leica beneath a mobile home. She was all skin and bones. She'd

An important addendum to this!!!Unpaid internships are ONLY LEGAL if:-The work that you are doing benefits YOU and not the company (ex: you being told to fetch coffees for the managers benefits THEM, and does not benefit your education. this is work that would LEGALLY need to be paid.)-There has to be a CLEAR and UNDERSTOOD agreement that the internship is unpaid. If you were led to be expected it was a paid internship and they suddenly were liek “what? no it was unapid”, then the law is on your side to be paid because they didn’t make the agreement clear enough.-The work you are doing must COMPLEMENT the work of paid employees there, NOT replace it.  -The work you do must be RELEVANT to your topic of education. (Again , going back to the coffee example; the chances that fetching some one coffee is relevant to your education is not likely. this is not allowed.)Always remember these things when taking an unpaid internship; you actually DO have legal rights in this regard!  many occasions that he understood the meaning behind the words he

 mindblowing.
 Alex also was shown to have the intelligence of a young child, anywhere from 3
 to 5 years old. He could do basic addition and subtraction, and independently
 taught himself the concept of zero (something that most CIVILIZATIONS
 couldn't do!) He had a vocabulary of thousands of words, some of which he
 made up himself, and had deep interpersonal bonds with many scientists and
 trainers, as well as other parrots.
 Alex the parrot is basically the coolest bird ever
 animals are often smarter than you think. There is/was a gorilla they taught sign
 language to. And one day she asked for a kitten. they gave her a stuffed animal but she
 signed sad. She wanted a real one. She was allowed to choose one from a litter.
 She named it All Ball and she loved it
 Except one day All Ball escaped from the cage and was hit by a car. And this shows you
 just how much animals can understand. They signed what had happened but didn't
 think the gorilla would understand. But she started making weeping, howling/crying
 sounds and the signs for bad, sad, etc.
 And then "Sleep, cat". She understood death.
 She's had two kittens since then
 Animals understand more than you think. Depends on the animal, yes.

it always disappointed me that Monster Girls are an anime porn thing rather than something used to explore the way society and the media dehumanises women, but oh well

This is so on point. In my writing, my main female characters are always some sort of monster. Giant werewolf girl that can rip your throat out? Yep. I started really realizing that maybe there’s something wrong with the world, and not me, when the only way I could make a character I truly understood how to write was if they were able to shapeshift into a huge monstrous thing with snarling maws and fur everywhere. I just gave up and went “FINE I guess I’m a monster then!” and embraced the fur and fangs and everything else that made people afraid of me. (Like not shaving my armpits or my legs.)
Heck, I won’t even be as invested in a game as I might if I can’t either play as a non-human character or make myself a non-human character. I bought Guild Wars 2 simply because of the Charr. I knew nothing about MMORPGs at the time, I just saw sabercat people and bought it.

it always disappointed me that Monster Girls are an anime porn thing rather than something used to explore the way society and the media dehumanises women, but oh well

shout out to all my fellow monsters



This is so on point. In my writing, my main female characters are always some sort of monster. Giant werewolf girl that can rip your throat out? Yep. I started really realizing that maybe there’s something wrong with the world, and not me, when the only way I could make a character I truly understood how to write was if they were able to shapeshift into a huge monstrous thing with snarling maws and fur everywhere. I just gave up and went “FINE I guess I’m a monster then!” and embraced the fur and fangs and everything else that made people afraid of me. (Like not shaving my armpits or my legs.)
Heck, I won’t even be as invested in a game as I might if I can’t either play as a non-human character or make myself a non-human character. I bought Guild Wars 2 simply because of the Charr. I knew nothing about MMORPGs at the time, I just saw sabercat people and bought it.

 Never has a man influenced physics so profoundly as Niels Bohr in the early 1900's
 Going back to this time period, little was known about atomic structure: Bohr set out
 to end the obscurity of physics. However.things didn't come easy for Bohr. He had to
 give up most of his life for physics and research of many hypothesis. But, this is why
 you and I have even heard of the quantum theory and atomic structures. Bohr came
 with his quantum theory while studying at Cambridge. Bohr was a skeptic and he
 never truly believed in Max Planck's old quantum theory. He put forth the idea that.
 going from one high-energy orbit o a lower one, an electron could, in fact, be trying
 to emit a quantum of discrete energy. Bohr was criticized for this idea, but he didn't
 let up. Soon after, Bohr said his famed quote," If quantum mechanics hasn't shocked
 you you haven't understood it yet. This quote is extremely famous and has gone
 down as the motto for quantum physicist around the world. Understandably, Bohr
 never won a Nobel prize outside of physics (of which he only won one). Bohr's stil
 going strong with his theories on atomic structure; he allowed for 100's of scientists
 to fully experiment with the cell and its many components Bohr was largely on the
 run from the Nazi's when he came up with this discovery, which is amazing because
 around this time, Bohr's home country of Denmark was invaded by the Nazi's. Bohr
 and Ernest Rutherford are given credit, but it is believed that Rutherford decided to
 desert Bohr in the middle of their work Rutherford once, quite famously said tha
 you should never bet against the wonders of science. Niels Bohr's famous career
 never really kicked off until he was forty years old. Most other major scientists were
 going all over the world with their ideas by their early twenties However, in order
 to preserve the legacy of Niels Bohr, he has his own institution, whose goal is to
 make many more great strides in the field of physics for years. How did Bohr affect
 you and me? Without Niels Bohrs' more advanced atomic theory, we might as well
 over how little we know of the atoms and their compounds. Physics would have
 never been such a force in the todays society. However, to this day, research is still
 going on to improve and update the atomic theory. Although scientists clearly want
 to improve on Bohr's theory, many famous physicists come out publicly and openly
 that Bohr's ideas will never be improved upon, todays society cannot say
 goodbye to an opportunity to improve our understanding of the sciences. If Bohr
 never had silenced his critics, we would still be following Planck's theories, and
 going on incomplete information. Bohr's later life was all occupied when he decided
 to go back to Denmark and head the Royal Danish Academy. His main goal was to
 the world of the of the greatness of the Danish Sciences and most likely educate
 a new crop of scientists for years to come. There is controversy surrounding Bohr's
 lie during his stint in the Manhattan project. Though he claimed to be anti-violence
 and a peace-seeker, Bohr engineered on the Manhattan Project. Though he didn't
 hurt anyone directly, thousands of people died. Neils Bohr opened many doors for
