In my classes, I’m told that you can’t be forced to do something against your beliefs—you can even request to have your patient switched if, for example, you are against abortion and she is recovering from an abortion and you feel your beliefs will get in the way of you giving effective care.</p> <p>The fact that the hospital was threatening to fire these nurses over something like that horrifies and scares me, especially since I’m going to be entering the health care industry as a nurse in less than a year.</p> </blockquote> <p>I wonder how screwed you are, though, if you refuse to participate in abortions, not because of a religious belief that it is murder, but because you simply believe that it is murder…..?  There are atheists and non-religious people who are pro-life. do they also have the right to say no?</p> </blockquote> <p>Of course they do. What kind of question is that? I know pro-life atheists. They also used words like &ldquo;Conscience&rdquo; and &ldquo;moral conviction&rdquo; in the video. That would apply even to people of no faith. The bottom line is that people should not be forced to do things that go against their convictions. You don&rsquo;t force a vegan to eat meat, you don&rsquo;t force a Jew to eat pork, and you don&rsquo;t force a person who is  pro-life (for whatever reason) to commit an abortion. </p>
